Program Instructor

Position Overview: The Program Instructor is responsible for managing the classroom, facilitating lesson plans, and carrying out the mission and vision of the EJS Project. This role includes engaging teenagers in educational and recreational activities, supporting them during program sessions, maintaining communication with students and families, and fostering a safe, encouraging environment. The Program Instructor works directly with students to ensure active participation and growth, while collaborating with staff to support the overall success of the program. This position reports to the Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Delivery & Engagement:

Execute lesson plans and activity schedules provided by the Director of Operations.
Assist with the planning and delivering educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
Actively engage students through daily check-in circles, team-building exercises, and structured learning sessions.
Build meaningful relationships with students by being an active, positive presence and mentor.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment that promotes student participation, learning, and personal growth.

Classroom and Activity Support:

Assist the Program Coordinator with the implementation of educational, recreational, and enrichment programs.
Engage with students during program activities, providing guidance and support.
Help maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Encourage active participation in program activities and facilitate group discussions.
Monitor student behavior and ensure a safe space for all participants.
Actively supervise and oversee teens throughout the program.
Assist with setting up and breaking down classroom activities and events.
Oversee snack management, including restocking, monitoring student usage, and ensuring availability.

Data Management:

Record and maintain accurate attendance and participation records.
Assist in collecting and organizing program data for evaluation and reporting purposes.

Parent and Community Engagement:

Support communication efforts with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program updates.
Help strengthen community partnerships to enhance student experiences.

Additional Duties:

Assist with volunteer activities if needed.
Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the camp program.

Qualifications:

Previous experience working with teenagers in educational, recreational, or camp settings.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Experience executing lesson plans and structured activities.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
High energy, flexible, and committed to youth development.
Passion for the mission and values of the EJS Project.
