Emanuel “Dupree” Jackson Jr. is an exceptional human. A strong family man, community leader, and Florida native, he founded the Emanuel Jackson Sr. Project (EJS). The mission of EJS is to inspire and empower tomorrow’s leaders. EJS is a nonprofit organization that began in 2016, although Dupree’s community service started long before.

Delray Beach groups from different backgrounds are working together to document the challenges in hopes of preventing history from repeating itself. It may sound like a simple concept, but the work behind it proves otherwise.

A pregnant high school senior is thanking a Palm Beach County organization for getting her through a difficult time. “I was having problems with school,” said Ka’Mya Hall. “I go to a charter school, and they did not provide me with a computer.”

Hall is also eight months pregnant and in need of basic child care items. So she journaled her story online through the Palm Health Foundation’s SenseMaker Story Collection Project.

For the past four weeks, volunteers at the EJS Project have been serving free hot meals with a side of compassion to put a dent in the need caused by COVID-19.

The steady flow of motorists on Friday was a vivid sign of the economic hardship sown by the pandemic. Each week, the numbers increased, and on Friday they served 400 plates, organizers said.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has a question for you: Can we talk? The organization invites residents to come together on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in small-group mealtime conversations to explore meaningful ideas about how to cultivate a stronger community during On the Table.

Drumline, step team dancers, a bounce house, games, dunk tank and free food will be just some of the highlights of the second annual EJS CommUNITY Block Party from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18 in Delray Beach.

The EJS Project will have its grand opening from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m and a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. April 6 at its headquarters, 700 W. Atlantic Ave., in Delray Beach. The nonprofit’s mission is to build and empower tomorrow’s leaders.
